Will Cue “Uberize” Healthcare?

I remember the day, April 7th, when my mother called to tell me she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. She was 44 years old. She had a terrible cough that winter and, like many of us, assumed it was just her annual bout with bronchitis. Six months later, she went to see her doctor. It was too late. She died 10 months later.
I wish medical technology could have cured her in ways Hollywood portrays in films like Elysium. In the film, a wealthy resident lies down in, what appears to be, a tanning bed and, within seconds, is cured of cancer. It’s hard to fathom medical technology achieving Hollywood’s utopian vision of instant diagnoses and miracle cures. Or is it?
Enter Cue, a revolutionary new device for testing and tracking your health information at a molecular level and in the privacy of your home. Cue empowers consumers to track five key health and lifestyle indicators: inflammation, vitamin D, fertility, influenza, and testosterone. Pick up your mobile phone, open the Cue app and viola! Your latest test results and suggestions for improving your diet, exercise and sleep are immediately available for you to take action.
Clint Sever, Cue’s Founder and Chief Product Officer, said “We worked hard to make sure Cue delivers meaningful Information in a way that can be understood without a medical degree. The result is a product that opens up an entirely new world of possibilities for understanding and improving our health.”
I’m incredibly excited about start-ups like Cue and Theranos. These companies are putting medical technology directly into our hands. Will they “Uber-ize” the healthcare industry? Will there be an in-home test for cancer in my lifetime? Who knows, but I passionately believe that Cue has the potential to save lives. I’m proud that the Horton family will be beta testers when the device ships in May 2015.
What is @ the Heart of Cue? Empowerment. Taking ownership for my physical and mental health. Technology that will teach, guide and strengthen me.
